Natural Guard Tree Care

We didn't start out to form a tree care company. We were part of a group organized in the Winter of 2001 to help stop the cutting of the biggest unprotected trees on earth -- the ancient redwoods of Northern California. A few dozen volunteers from San Juan went down to the battle zone, set up camps and kitchens, taught tree climbing and non-violence, and learned about each other, danger and advertisity. We formed the non-profit group, the Natural Guard.

Three of us connected during these campaigns: Todd Loewen, Sam Carter, and Ben White -- two young athletes with a passion for extreme adventure and nature, and one old arborist who had run an award-winning tree care company in Virginia for 18 years. We decided to set up a small company in Friday Harbor to promote the care and maintenance of the exquisite arboricultural beauty of these islands.
